A conversation before a prescription
Hormone-related concerns can affect your comfort, relationships and routines. They can also overlap with other health issues. Share when your symptoms began, what makes them better or worse and which changes matter most to you. Your history, symptoms and appropriate testing help shape the next step.
Understanding HRT and BHRT
Hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, is an umbrella term for treatments that replace certain hormones. Bioidentical describes a hormone with the same molecular structure as one made by the body. FDA-approved bioidentical products exist; compounded preparations are different and are not automatically safer or more effective.
Choosing a treatment format
At NuEra, you can discuss pellet, injection, oral and topical treatment options. The appropriate route depends on the hormone, treatment purpose and your medical history. Ask Tara about the specific product, its approval status, alternatives and how changes would be monitored.
Benefits, risks and ongoing review
For appropriate patients, menopausal hormone therapy can help hot flashes and night sweats. Some health histories make it unsuitable, and risks vary by treatment. A consultation should cover possible side effects, alternatives and follow-up. Testosterone treatment has separate diagnostic and monitoring requirements.
Hormone Therapy questions
Is BHRT the same as compounded hormone therapy?
No. Bioidentical refers to the structure of a hormone. Both FDA-approved products and compounded products may be described as bioidentical. Ask which product is being recommended and why.
Are symptoms alone enough to choose treatment?
Symptoms are part of the assessment. Medical history, examination and testing when appropriate are also considered. Similar symptoms can have different causes.
Where do I start if I am unsure which hormone is involved?
Start with a consultation. Describe the changes you are experiencing rather than trying to choose a treatment yourself.
