Look for a pattern
Changes in your periods, hot flashes and night sweats can happen during perimenopause. A pattern of symptoms is more helpful to discuss than an isolated uncomfortable day. Keep simple notes about when symptoms occur and how they affect you.
Make room for other explanations
Sleep disruption and fatigue can have multiple causes. A conversation should include medications, relevant medical history and other changes in your life. Avoid assuming that every new symptom is hormonal.
Prepare useful questions
Ask what could explain your symptoms, whether testing would help and which options fit your history. You can also ask how to compare hormonal and nonhormonal approaches and how progress would be assessed.
Connect symptoms to your goals
Think about what you most want to improve, such as sleeping more comfortably or understanding your changing cycles. An individual evaluation can help you decide on an appropriate next step.
